The mech regiment

Might do better with 75's or 105's in the weapons company than more 81mm mortars.

Both organizations are light on fire support, especially the mech infantry.

I would agree in absolute terms. However, the French Army never developed 'regimental artillery' between the wars, in contrast to German or Russian developments. The closest that the French had historically was the 37mm trench gun of Great War vintage.

Adding such weapons may not make sense unless France was willing to adapt its tactics to making use of such weapons. The US Army adopted regimental 'cannon companies' in imitation of the OTL Wehrmacht, but soon abandoned them - as the US found trained artillerymen more valuable in regular field artillery units.

Very well thought out. It will be quite a change from the current French force structure, and I am certain that the older generation of officers will not be happy. It might even force them into retirement.

I also see a widening market here for motor vehicles. Investing in Renault, Citroen or Peugeot might not be amiss.

Very well thought out. It will be quite a change from the current French force structure, and I am certain that the older generation of officers will not be happy. It might even force them into retirement.

Good! We'll throw them a big huge party to thank them for their past excellent service, then shuffle them out the door and promote younger, more free-thinking officers... :D

But not de Gaulle. IIRC Wes hates de Gaulle. :P

The Brigade de réaction rapide is a new concept introduced in 1941, based on lessons learned during the Rif-Atlas revolt. These units are designed for rapid deployment with all the necessary combined-arms units. Within France, they are designed to react swiftly to defend key sectors against incursion until the deployment of larger divisions with greater staying power; they may also be retained as part of an army's emergency reserve. Internationally, they may be sealifted by the Marine Nationale (if no Fusiliers Marins units are available for the task) to help shore up an ally's forces or bolster the defense of a besieged colony. The unit is specifically regarded as "elite", receiving primacy in equipment options, and fully composed of standing troops rather than being partially manned by reservists. In order to maintain their experience with rapid response, the brigades will conduct field exercises on a regular basis to test their readiness.

The Brigades are based on the modified order-of-battle of the Armoured Division's Regiment de Reconnaissance.
