Vickers Valentine Infantry Tank:
During late 1937 the Canadian Army chose the new Vickers Valentine as their Infantry Tank rather than the Matilda. The basic chassis and suspension of the A10 was mated to an improved hull and new three-man turret armed with the 3.7in howitzer but also capable of taking the new 6pdr gun. A .30in Browning co-axial MG is also fitted with another in an AA mount. The four-man crew (driver, commander, gunner and loader) is protected by 65-8mm thick armour; the 175hp Orenda diesel engine gives a speed of 15mph (8mph cross-country) and a range of 180 miles. Weight is 39,000lbs, fording depth is 3 feet and trench crossing is 7.6 feet. 79-53 rounds of ammunition can be stowed along with 3,150 MG rounds. 90 of the 3.7in armed version will be built by Canadian Vickers along with 50 more armed with the 2pdr gun as the Valentine VI and VIA, Canadian Pacific from 1939 will build 150 6pdr armed VIB tanks.
