The Atlantean Army leadership had noted that in several instances during war games Anti-Aircraft units had been overrun by armored units and in desperation the AA batteries had turned their guns on the attackers. As a result several AA guns were tested vs. armor and the 90/1938 had proved to be a potent weapon in this role. The weapon was put into service in 1944 hence its /44 addendum to its designation to differentiate it from the AA version.
