Schneider Trophy

A race will occur over the Solent for the Coupe d'Aviation Maritime Jacques Schneider.

Should it have occurred in 1931, or will 1932 be more satisfactory?

What entrants will be put forwards for such a contest?

Well, if it is in 1932 Husquarna-Sopwith will enter a racing version of the New Sopwith Odin.

Sounds like fun!

Polikarpov and Nieuport will have entries.

...Nah.

Canada will sit this out due to the current lack of indigenous designs.

Japan will sit this out since it is concentrating all its resources on more useful aircraft.

1931: Mitsubishi's new plane ready for its maiden flight.

... in other words, Manzo wrecked the plane again. :-)

(edit: 1st pic didn't work)

when I say racing version, I mean the same basic fuselage with a 1500hp engine instead of a 950hp one

Right....

So the propeller on that new Japanese craft is just out of picture then.....

Japan already uses jets. :-)
(wonder if anyone has found them yet)

I think the Italians and Canadians know. They are stealing your engines as we speak.

If GB wants to win then 1931 it is. Considering the GB entry was built with private money that was the only option. In ATL, postphoning the race to 1932 might see it stand longer into the 1930s.

I'm leaning to 1932, so the competition is a bit better, as well as giving some time for working out stuff.

The British entry will, of course, be the S.6b (even if it doesn't win, it'll buy time whilst I figure out what the S.7 is).

Hmmm, the MC.72 can run at half throttle and still match the average speed of the S.6b

For the S.7 you really want the Napier-Heston racer, but its too early to start using Sabre engines and they only give 2000hp.

I assume the American entry will look something like this?

We may not know how to be sane, but boy do we have fun. ^_^

The Philippines is considering entering an experimental Heinkel 70 modified with floats..

Australia will enter the Gloster/CAC IV. After getting defeated by the Italians in the World Cup, Australia has one goal in this race, defeat Italy no matter what.

I might even buy a souped up Curtiss racer for Mexico for National Pride if nothing else.

I would not anticipate any Indian entries...

But neither Italy nor Australia entered the 1930 event.

Really, until powerful jets appear in the 50s/60s there isn't going to be much improvement on the 710km/h speed set by the MC.72 - well it still holds the record for fastest piston-engined seaplane.

That's how upset the Aussies are - it's affecting events in other realities seventy-five years in the past. Maybe Italy should just concede to them before things get ugly.
