Russian Naval Infantry

Overview
The Russian Naval Infantry (Morskaya pekhota Rossii), sometimes called the Russian Marine Corps, are a branch of the Russian Navy that specializes in amphibious assault. They are a separate unit from the Coastal Defense Artillery.

Organization
The standard unit of the Russian Naval Infantry is a brigade. A brigade is composed of:

-- 2x mortar batteries (82mm)
-- 1x logistics company
-- 1x communications company

Equipment
The Naval Infantry may be distinguished by their telnyashkas, or striped undershirts worn under their battle dress.

Marines are armed with significantly more submachine guns than an average infantry unit, with both PPSh-41 and PPS-43 submachine guns regularly employed. Up to half of the infantrymen in a standard Naval Infantry company may be armed with submachine guns. Most of the remainder are armed with SVT-36 semiautomatic rifles. The new AK-47 rifle is not yet in use by the Naval Infantry.

The Naval Infantry are equipped with amphibious trucks, amphibious wheeled armoured carriers, and T-45 Grom medium tanks equipped for deep wading (from a landing ship to shore).
