The Trumpet Class

Greetings!

After some problems with the whole design and a particular problem with the concept, I have the honor of publishing the Trumpet Class. The idea was to make it fast enough to follow the cruising speed of the main fleet, but no more. I'm still not completely sure of that decision. That speed could make the boat too problematic and too easy to catch. I would like to hear your opinions about that and about the ship in general.

Well, as you yourself elude to, the speed is high for a monitor type vessel and I would think slow for a coastal defense battleship (also lacks sufficient main guns to be classed as a coastal defense battleship), 10-15 knots would seem adequate. One thing you might also try is to add some purposely exaggerated bulges to give them greater torpedo protection, these however would reduce the speed of the vessel.

Sounds good. After play with that idea for a while I discovered how usefull it is, thanks you. It gave me a the posibility to increse the armor, espesially the deck armor. Also I put it bigger guns (16 inches) and I didn't had to reduce the speed to much.
So, here is the result:

Also worth trying, any old battleships scrapping can have their guns repurposed for this sort of ship, (9.5", 10", 12") and would make the cost of such units cheaper (though springsharp doesn't recognize the usage of used guns).

Okay, I may be exaggerated with the 16 inches guns. I like the idea of re-use an old gun, I should have thinked about it before.

One last critique, your 38mm guns can be laid out in one slot as they are all side distributed. This could leave a slot open for small arms (50-45 cal.) to use against small boats such as motor torpedo boats that the larger guns would be overkill against.
