In 1929 the aviation division of the Marina de Guerra del Perú was joined with that of the Ejército del Perú to form the Cuerpo de Aviación del Perú, which organization was re-named the Cuerpo Aeronáutico del Perú in 1936. . By decree of President Manuel Arturo Odría Amoretti dated 18 July 1945 the Marina de Guerra regained control of its own aviation assets, both those based aboard the aircraft carrier Lima and land based units engaged in maritime reconnaissance.
