Nice, three golds out of six events in cycling! It does seem to be one of the more popular sports in France...

*awaits swimming to see how well the Italians do in his sport*
You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

Looking at the historical trend of this period, it is more likely that Italian swimming ambitions will sink like a rock than float on the surface of the olympic swimming pool. The Japanese appear to be pretty good swimmers in this period.

Taking a quick look, I expect good Italian results with fencing and rowing.

If not, then I expect that officials were bribed by the nation that got the most medals. :)

Modern Pentathlon
Only one modern pentathlon event was contested, the five component sports (riding, fencing, shooting, swimming, and running) being held over six days. Scoring was by point-for-place system across the five phases with the winner being the athlete with the lowest combined ranking. The sport's international federation, the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne was founded during the Games, on 3 August 1948. Nordmark won two medals in the event; William Grut won the gold, with a final points total of 16, and Gösta Gärdin took bronze. American George Moore won the silver medal.

Polo
This competition has made a reappearance, having last been held at the 1936 Summer Olympics. Five teams contested this year. Great Britain beat Argentina to claim gold and Germany beat Mexico to claim bronze.
