Noticias desde Mexico

Note: Im not sure on the exact dates for these news

Today in a speech by Secretery of Defence Manuel Camacho, he announced a program to bring the Mexican Armed Forces up to date. In his own words: "Argentina is rearming, Brazil is making threatening noises, war is about to erupt between Chile and Bolivia. And that is just in South America. The Mediterrean and the Southwest Pacific are other potential flashpoints. A conflict in any of these areas could spread and threaten the National Security of Mexico. And how are we going to defend our interests when even Colombia has stronger armed forces than us?."

In a ceremony celebrating the commissioning of the ex-American destroyers, Secretary of the Navy Manuel Azueta revealed his part in the Armed Forces Program. "The building of a first rate navy takes time. Because of this reason we have decided to buy a number of sulprus warships as a short term solution. The Mexican Navy has bought seven minesweepers from SAE, six destroyers from Normark and has an option for two more, and last but not least we have bought a pair of Thracius class cruisers from Atlantis. Also I have the honor to reveal to you the Seven Year Plan. This plan will bring the Mexican Navyto World class standards. It consists of the construction of: four cruisers, two heavy cruisers, six plus submarines, twelve destroyers and a seaplane carrier. Also a number of older warships will be reffited as part of this program." In related news a crew of sailors was sent to the US to train with the American sailors in submarines.

The Mexican Air Force has its own plans. Thirty ex-AAC Cutis P-6E fighters have been bought from the United State. In addition an FAM delegation recently departed to France to inquire about a possible license production of the Breguete XIX. TCAN-Azcarte is busy upgrading the Farman F50 bombers with new engines. They are also working on an improved version of Lascuráin's Tololoche. Rumor has it that a famous Polish engineer is working for TCAN-Azcarte.

For their part the Army has sent some of its people to Atlantis. They will take a look at the AT-27 MK1 tanks and the NH-28 Gazell armored car. It is expected that the army will place an order sometime this year.

I am entering the FMA T-514 for the trainer category. It can carry light bombs for attack and bombing training, radio can be fitted if desired. A tough type based on the old Avro 504 you've been using, but this aircraft only really retains the wings unmodified.
