Hedjaz Army

End of 1939

The Royal Hedjazi Army of December 1939 was composed of two Infantry Brigades, two armored cars companies, two tank companies, seven independent infantry companies and support elements. Plans were on the making to purchase some Kachhuaa tanks from Bharat in 1940 to support the infantry units. The total number of active soldiers was around 10,000 men.

The Brigades were composed of two one-battalion regiments with a 12-gun 75mm artillery battalion attached. Support elements were also attached to the Brigades.

The Hedjazi Army main mission is to police the borders of the Kingdom, especially against bandits from Yemen and Saudi Arabia. The late 1939 war scare demonstrated to the Hedjazi leadership their lack of offensive or defensive capabilities and they are concentrating in improving their defensive stance.
