India, Q4/22

I trust this is not premature...

Indian Naval Developments - Q4/1922

A. Industrial Allocation

7/10 factories producing warship material = 7,000 t, plus a stockpile of 808 t, for a total of 7,808 t. 5,976 t are used, leaving a surplus of 1,832 t.

3/10 factories dedicated to producing infrastructure material = 0.3 pts; bonus production takes place this quarter and produces another 0.3 pts.

B. Infrastructure Development

0.6 pts invested in Factory Eleven, which is at 10.0 pts and thus completed.

C. Naval Construction

At Mumbai

The commercial shipyard at Cochin builds 3 100t motor torpedo boats

D. Transactions

The Indian Navy begins to look for civilian vessels to purchase for use as tenders, oilers, and other auxiliaries.

E. Other Notes

Monitor Chandragupta , AM Brahmaputra complete shakedown cruises

CVS Palk Bay , AM Ayeyerwady , Narmada , Ghaghara , DD G-131 , SL S-102 continue shake-down cruises

AM Yamuna , Irrawaddy , SL S-103 , DD G-132 begin shakedown cruises

New units laid down this quarter: one light cruiser, two minesweepers, one sloop

The Indian Navy cancels the Mannar Gulf class of destroyer tenders after an internal review finds it would be more cost effective to purchase and refit civilian vessels. The lead unit, with three months work put into it, will be scrapped in situ.

The second unit of the Mahanadi class of oilers is also cancelled from the 1923 program. The lead unit, already launched, will be completed.

Consequently, a large and unanticipated stockpile of material remains for use in early 1923, and the navy spends much of this quarter determining how to adjust its 1923 program.
