Colonial Aviso

I was giving some consideration to a new class of vessel for the French Navy to increase it's patrol capabilities in distant stations. I based my idea off this vessel proposed by Jefgte.

My theory, at least in this case, is for a ship with excellent range, oceanic performance and versatility, capable of serving as a minelayer, light craft tender, floatplane carrier, and patrol ship.

This seems to be a big investment for an overseas escort ship; at first glance it might be too big an investment.

But the design has a good mix of properties - good seakeeping, good speed, good armament - all sufficient to carry out local and regional escort, showing the flag, patrolling and intervention.

If a couple of these can save major fleet units from being tied down on patrol tasks in time of peace, then they are worth the investment.

I was playing with broadly similar ideas for a "station command ship", but realized I had no distant stations that needed commanding.

Hey, you have to plan for the future!

Jeftge's design has often intrigued me too. This looks like a pretty workable and useful concept. It's bigger than a sloop but it has a geniune multi-role capability and generally a few of these overseas will release other vessels for more mundane patrol tasks. Worth the investment I'd say.

Yep, if China would has some oversea territories i would build such a ship ;)

Since I proposed a 130mm-armed destroyer elsewhere, I put together a design of this ship with the 130mm.

Well, if you are going to swear off the 138mm, this design isn't harmed by the change. Given the projected employment, they still seem worth the investment.

Still looks good, can't see any detrimental impacts and the light displacement is slightly less so that's a bonus too.
