Peruvian news and events, Q4 1932

October 7 1932- The former Argentinian cruiser General Sarmiento, renamed the Callao, arrived today to the naval station that carries that same name. It was reported the ship will go into the yards at the end of the month to refit the ship to more modern standards due to the age of the engines and the main armament. It's expected the ship will be ready for operations after the end of their refit and trials by the spring of 1934.

October 13 1932- Today the advance party of the Iberian 2nd Mountain Division, in Callao for two weeks now, announced the preparations for the expected arrival of the bulk of that division are almost completed. The bulk of the division is expected to arrive later this week. The division first will train near the Chilean-Peruvian-Bolivian border and then it's expected they will move to Iquitos to train in jungle warfare.

October 18th 1932- It was announced today by the War Ministry that the Iberian 3rd Naval Infantry Division will also arrive soon to our coast, expected to train in jungle warfare in the Iquitos area. The length of their stay is still an unknown at this time.

OOC: Why a naval infantry division want to train in jungle warfare is beyond this reporter's scope but is the unit CG is sending so I guess they have to go somewhere.

Because a lot of Iberian territory has jungle-encrusted coasts, and also a lot of other peoples!!!

El Cid, escorting ships and now troops. I think some nations aren't going to like this...

True. Wish I knew what happened to Fyrwulf, the Brazillians would probably be going nuts about now....

Fyrwulf would also have some issues with what happens in Paraguay, methinks.

Mexico definetly does not like this increased Iberian influence. Our souther border is Jungle and faces Iberian territory.

Perhaps its time to hire a certain Mr. M...

I talked to him on AH.Com a while back... I bet he'll be around again soon. Hope so, anyways.. I have shiny new BCs for him.

Fyrwulf may have issues, but he's currently AWOL so his absence makes it difficult for others to include him in the plot.

I don't expect anybody to sit on their ass and wait for others to enact their own storylines.

October 25th 1932- Marshall Arjona sat on his desk, going over operational plans and proposed deployments of troops to protect the borders due to the ongoing Chilean-Bolivian conflict. He considered the arrival of the Iberians as an ace on his sleeve but he knew his forces were still in the process of restructuration.

He closed the folder on front of him after signing the approval for the redeployment of the 1st Infantry division south and was ready to open the next folder on his in basket when an aide entered his office after knocking on the door.

The exchange between them lasted no more than a couple of minutes with Arjona thanking him for the news he brought, then the aide politely exited the office afterwards.

Now alone in his office, Arjona looked around for a set of folders marked Operation Grau and after finding them he put them away in a locked cabinet. Too bad! I was looking forward to face them in battle. he silently lamented while closing the file cabinet, diplomacy far away winning the day for now.

I know I hate when that happens. Arjona will just have to game it out some day.

October 26th 1932- Rumors abound on the city of Lima today that some kind of agreement was reached in the United States' city of Savannah between our representatives and the Chilean government representatives meeting on that city, on conversations since last month in what has been rumored to be an attempt by our government to resolve the border disputes with Chile.

Both the Foreign Ministry and the office of the President of the Republic refused to give any comments at this time if the rumors of an agreement are true and for now the information can't be corroborated by this news agency.

Quotes of Francisco de La Guarda private diary

October 29th 1932-
"Finally after a month of negotiations we reached an agreement with Chile and we can finally move and put this behind us. I'm tired after all the month long sessions, the fighting, the finger pointing and the name calling. At least the US representative Hull was an oasis of sanity during this talks, trying to find a middle point between that Chilean idiot and myself."

"I know this agreement will not be popular back home or in Chile but was the best we could get under the circunstances. We could have jumped on Chile now that they were weak but while we haunted the Chilean thoughts as an spectre the possible actions of Atlantis also haunted us and the fear the possible conflict expanding into a World War was the main reason I accepted this deal. God save us now from the decisions made during this meeting."

I like your news, do keep it up.

The Filipinos still have relatively good ties with Peru (due to the sale of Lima, among other things) but the government is slightly peeved at your ties with the Iberians...

November 11th 1932- The Foreign Ministry oficially announced today that indeed an agreement was reached with the Chilean government in late October in regard to border demarcation. Still the Ministry gave no details at this time of the points agreed during that negotiations, stating they will make public that information later in the month.

November 17th 1932- An Iberian naval force, led by the armored cruiser El Cid, arrived today for an extended courtesy call and later for combined training with units from our surface fleet.

It was also announced that possibly part of this force will stay in Peruvian and Ecuadorian waters in a permanent basis as a sign of the growing cooperation between the Iberian government and our own.
