With the hands of the BNS being tied by their newly signed accords with Great Britain and Australia the leadership of the BNS turned in the direction of the torpedo as a defensive platform. Prohibited by those treaties to built ocean going submarines and capital size ships it was decided to put as many torpedos as possible in a ship and make that ship as fast as possible to evade the enemy. The range was very limited due to the speeds achieved but the plan was to use then as defensive platforms, the enemy expected to enter Bharat's territorial waters to face this ship. The first ships equipped with radar, they were also expected to be used in night operations.
Based on examinations of the German Maas Class and similar Japanese ships.
