2nd Quarter 1929

Summary: Cruisers Chester and Chicago completed and working up, cruisers Houston and Augusta fitting out. Work to place the Lexington and Saratoga into compliance with the Cleito treaty completed and they are on post-refit shakedowns. Rebuilding of the carriers Sackets Harbor and Lake Champlain nearing completion, as is the rebuilding of the battleship Texas at Norfolk. Wholesale scrapping of old, structurally deficient, destroyers ongoing at east and gulf coast dockyards, with all projected to be scrapped by early 1930. Expansion of industrial base continuing as well.
