The return of the Association of Aircraft Manufacturers’ demonstration tour was hailed today in the announcement of the sale of four IK-4 twin-engine crew training aircraft to the Syrian Air Force. It is hoped that other nations might follow suit.

The Defence Ministry reports that testing of the first of several prototypes of the Soko Orao fighter aircraft is progressing in a satisfactory manner. Baring any mishap, it is expected that the first production aircraft will emerge from the factory in approximately a year’s time.

Parliament approved the naval estimates as presented by the Government, and the forthcoming year will see two large destroyer leaders and four sloops, among other vessels, added to the Navy. Members of the Opposition had urged construction of additional submarines to counter the threat posed by nearby foreign navies but the Government majority held firm against such jingoistic clamour.
