The AGO Flugzeugwerke Oschersleben, the aircraft construction subsidiary of the Apparatebau GmbH Oschersleben, is the heir to the Gustav Otto Flugmaschinenwerke firm that had been founded in 1911. It has long functioned as a member of the Focke Wulf Fw340 production group. The firm has maintained a design office since 1935 under the leadership of engineer Paul Klages. The Ao225 design, in effect a modernised version of the Ao192 Kurier of 1936, is intended for the growing civil aviation market.
