Filipino News

1 July 1934
Filipinas Orient Airways has issued a request for bids for the construction of two Zeppelin type airships for trans-Pacific and trans-Indian passenger service.

14 July 1934
The Filipino delegation to the San Francisco Conference on Naval Limitation departed today aboard the seaplane tender Lagonoy with the cruiser Bugsuk escorting. Rumours that Lagonoy appeared especially low in the water are unfounded.

29 July 1934
Presidente de la Vega today signed into law the Self-Defense Act of 1934. Supplementing and clarifying the provision in the Filipino Constitution that grants the right to bear arms, SDA34 provides that all Filipino citizens of age 16 or greater may possess any weapon that does not fire explosive rounds, with the exception of those classified as Class-B or Class-C Fireworks, which are permitted. The sole exception is that those citizens who have ever been convicted or are under charge for a Grade 1 crime shall not possess any weapons of calibre larger than .22 unless they have served in the Filipino Armed Services following their conviction, have been granted a Honourable Discharge, and have been passed "A" by an Army Medical Corps psychologist.

4 August 1934
It was confirmed today that the Polar Exploration Ship Pacifica and "Antarctic Battleship" Jomalig will sail later in the month for the joint Filipino-Australian Antarctic exploration base at Macquarie Island, to begin Phase I of Operation Sueño Antártico. This will see the establishment of the first Permament Operational Base on the Antarctic coast (POB-1), and begin preparations for the exploration of the interor. A spokesman for the Armada de Filipinas declined to comment on rumours that aircraft from Pacifica will overfly the South Pole, or that a "Coast to Pole Route" through Filipino territory on the continent is planned.

(ooc: POB-1 will be located where in @ the French research station is.)

As it appears all Filipinos over 16 can carry fireworks launchers, future articles might well get shorter and louder...

So do the Filipinos want their Zeppelins Hydrogen filled? :D

7

Monday, June 11th 2007, 6:28pm

The Filipinos expect the best results so they do not want anything else in their Zeppelins. :)

No hydrogen in our Zeppelins, I'm afraid. We do have to draw the line somewhere. 8)

29 August 1934

The Fuerza Aerea Filipinas has selected the Heinkel He 112 to serve as its new standard front-line fighter aeroplane. The aircraft will be built at the Heinkel Ost plant in the Philippines...

Hydrogen is considerably better at lifting than helium if handled correctly. Also massively cheaper.

Why the He-112? The Bf-109 won the German fighter competition (and quite rightly) and Talons yet you choose the inferior aircraft?

Because he can.

There's that. There's also a couple other reasons why the FAF might make the decision it did: Heinkel has a factory in the Phillipines, BFW doesn't (so He-112s could be put into production at home), and BFW is, right now, struggling to produce as many Bf-109s as the Luftwaffe wants, let alone servicing any export orders (BFW, as historically, will have to farm out production to a number of other manufacturers, but hasn't done so yet).

Like Hrolf said, the local production aspect had a large influence. There's also the fact that when they were considering the prospects of future carrier-borne fighters, the Armada de Filipinas' planning staff took one look at the 109's undercarriage and ran away screaming...

4 September 1934
The Fuerza Aerea Filipinas today released a contract with the German Junkers company for one hundred Ju 52/3m transports. Reports are that FAF purchasing officials in America have expressed interest in the latest Boeing and Douglas products as well.

Sheesh, cowards. BFW's hard at work on the Bf-109T, to follow the Bf-109B or C into production for the expected KM carriers. They aren't expected to fly for at least a year, though, since the KM's just getting their first CVT in late 1934.

Tuesday, June 12th 2007, 6:13pm

Easy for you to say. Creating massive explosions isn't the German national pass-time, is it?

17

Tuesday, June 12th 2007, 6:19pm

Heh, nope. Besides, if you know what you're doing, the 109s no problem. If you don't know what you're doing, now..... :)

Of course, by the time Germany actually HAS any carriers to put carrier fighters on, there might be other choices for single engine fighters to put on it. Fw-190T, anyone?

I think you may need more than 100 Junkers transports... say 100,000. Just in case those Cigar Smoking Filipino Penguin Paratroopers blow up prematurely. :)
