Nome, Alaska- 7/09/21

Reports from Little Diomede Island in the Bering Strait indicate considerable construction activity beginning on the Russian Federation's nearby Big Diomede Island. Observed facilities include a large winch system on the southern end of the island, as well as the clearing of a smooth path or track up the steep slope of the island for a wheeled platform that is pulled up the slope by the winch. Large-scale concrete work has also been noted.

What's going on up there?

Well, when the Petr Veliki Class gets completed this December, I'll have a couple of 12x12" Dreadnoughts to scrap...

Meanwhile, I have llllloooooonnnnnnggggg days in which to get all the concrete poured. And not just for the guns. The bunkers have big tanks for storing fuel oil for their heaters, for those lllloooooooonnnnnnggggg nights to come.

President Kerenskii is considering integrated male-female units for remote, desolate, far-north Coast Artillery installations. This will permit economy in the consumption of fuel oil during the long Arctic winter, as alternative heating sources will be more readily available.

It is also expected to increase the popularity of duty in remote, desolate, far-north Coast Artillery installations, but this is an entirely unofficial consideration.

Inter gender relations in the military eh? Sounds like the Russian federation has found a cheap way to keep their soldiers warm and improve moral....nice touch.

There's some opposition

The leadership of Orthodox, Catholic, Jewish, and Muslim religions in Russian Federation seem to be against it, as are organizations of Russian mothers. Fathers tend also to oppose, but wink at soldier-son first after ensuring that wife is not looking. Soldier-daughter gets only stern fatherly look. Bhuddists don't seem too opposed, but don't register to vote in great numbers either. Political pitfalls are many, and President Kerenskii has made no definite decision on this delicate matter.
