Iberian News Summary 1934

Yeah, I know, it's real late!!!

Iberian News Summary 1934
RAM did some news during 1934, and I apologise if anything here contradicts anything he agreed to. Let me know if there are any issues.

January
7th Following the J.A.G. report last year on the Cochabamba incident, and the resultant court martial of the Pilot (dishonourably discharged, for negligence) and Bombardier (dishonourably discharged, for being intoxicated while on duty; convicted of multiple counts of manslaughter, jailed for 20 years) of the lead aircraft in the attack, all Roterra bombers are to be withdrawn from frontline service, and are to be converted to transport aircraft immediately.

February
28th - I.C.E. have reported that they have completed the first stage of Project Tapon. Stage 2 of the construction is due to be completed within 12 months.

March
13th In a late season skiing accident in the Pyrenees, His Majesty King Enrique, has been injured as a result of a fall. His exact condition is not clear, but he is known to be conscious and responsive.

17th His Majestys condition has been revealed to the public. He has sustained breaks to his left leg, pelvis, right arm and right shoulder. His doctors have said that while the King is in some considerable discomfort, he is in a stable condition.

April
1st With some reluctance, the Army has called off it's assault on the moon.
The decision is based on the fact that there is a new moon due at the time of the landings, but insufficient batteries have been sourced for the troop's torches.

May
12th DAF Iberia are working on a larger version of their CD-1 Autogyro.
The new craft should be able to carry about 12 people or 1000kg of cargo.

June
21st I.C.E. have concluded surveying possible sites for a new division of the Air Force which is to be involved with rocketry. A decision of the final location will be made before the end of the year.

July
21st The Army have issued orders to Denmark for the supply of 300 or the "Bille" tank, 36 to be supplied in "ready to roll" condition, with the rest being built locally.
The Army has also issued orders for 400 Breda AB.35 armoured cars to Italy, 200 Sdkfz 231 8-rad armoured cars and 600 Sdkfz 251 personnel carriers to Germany, each with a similar ratio of ready built to home produced.

August
18th Reports are coming in that the Zeppelin IZ 107 is missing. The rigid airship was last heard from by the radio operator aboard the Armada vessel Moncao, which was in Phuket at the time, preparing for the return trip to it's home port of Cadiz. The signals that were intercepted were described as "civilian traffic", with no distress signals heard. The airship should have reached Mogadishu, in the East African State no later than August 4th. Elements of the Armada in the Indian Ocean are conducting searches along the IZ 107's filed route.

September
3rd The escort cruiser Moncao has signalled that it has found wreckage which it believes comes from the missing airship IZ107. The wreckage consists of the aerodynamic housing from one of the engine pods, plus a section of one of the tail fins. The Armada has despatched additional vessels to the area to aid in the search.

30th The search for the passengers and crew of the IZ 107 has been called off. The decision was taken after much deliberation, following a massive search by the Armada, the Danish Air Force's Coastal Squadrons in Phuket and Berbera, and units of the Indian Navy based at Diego Garcia. No bodies have been recovered, and only about 10% of the airships structure has been found. The cause of the disaster will probably never be known.

October
1st - His Majesty King Enrique attended a memorial service today in Santa Maria la Real de la Almundena Cathedral for those lost in the IZ 107 disaster. The names of the 75 souls aboard were read out during the ceremony. This was the first public engagement that His Majesty has made following his accident in March, and
some observers commented that he did not look as well as before the fall.

November
15th Phase 2 of Project Tapon is now complete, well ahead of schedule.
The combination of good weather in the area, and better that expected geology.
Due to the earlier projected timetable, phase 3 cannot start earlier than February 1935, due to lack of materiel at the work sites.

December
7th After a review of the recent Air Force competition, an amendment has been made regarding the quantities of aircraft ordered, following a more detailed report on the current numbers and status of existing equipment.

As a result, the following amendments were issued.
To Heinkel, an increase of 470 units, by means of licence, for their He.112.
To Reggiane, an increase of 200 units, by means of licence, for their Re.2002 Falco

We wish the Army player well at the next international Hearts tourney, and Phillips will donate the needed lightbulbs.

Elements of the Dutch forces currently on convoy duty from DEI to SEA, will be diverted to aid in the search effort.

A Mexican right-wing newspaper...

News of the planned Iberian assault on the Moon have cause much concern in Mexican circles. Iberian Imperial ambitions know no bounds, not even the Moon is safe from these dastardly foes. We call on the Mexican government to meet this threat with out own lunatic invasion. Mr. President, we must not allow a Moon invasion gap!

OOC Mexico is most definately concern about the Iberian military buildup.

Deutsche Werke and Hanomag are surprised and pleased at the large orders for their vehicles. The 24 Deutsche Werke Sdkfz 231 8-rad vehicles will be delivered beginning in January of 1935, while the 72 Hanomag-built half-tracks will be delivered starting in November of 1935 (Hanomag is backed up with domestic production for the Heer and prior orders from Denmark and Peru).

Heinkel is happy to see more license-fee money flowing into it's coffers. The He-112, while receiving no domestic orders, has done very well on the international market, and the money received from it's sales has helped pay for the development of it's successor, the He-113 (now the He-100) currently undergoing testing at Rechlin.

I wouldn't have thought you'd be concerned Foxy, it's just Iberia responding to Mexican sabre-rattling!!

P.S. I'm still looking for a heavy tank, Iberia considers the "Bille" to be a medium tank. Any offers....

I'm not sure what use Iberia has for a heavy tank given the terrain it faces. Something between the Churchill and KV-1 with a nice big gun along the lines of the 3.7"/95mm howitzer. I'll have a play.

Mexico is in 1 location, Iberia spans the globe!

And anyway, if you were playing Iberia, and you were updating your entire air force, would the numbers involved be outrageous?

I think not, and any one with a nation of similiar size, with territories as seperated as Iberia's, would order similiar numbers.

And in the news piece did I mention that Mexico is the reason for the modified orders?
No I didn't!!

I believe that the phrase "What goes around, comes around" would be appropriate just about here, don't you think???

Kanzaki Heavy Industries can offer one of its latest tank designs.
If our information is correct, should the vehicle be accepted, Iberia wants to mount the Danish 75mm gun on this tank which is the same gun as the one used in the 'Eghjort'.
Once the Iberians mount the Danish gun into the tank, the Iberian version with the Danish 75 mm/30 cal VT-6 (*) gun would look like this:

(*) Made that one up. Feel free to correct me regarding that designation, Mac.

I wonder how it would look armed with one of the surplus Bofors M29 75mm AA guns

The only thing the Dutch can offer is the 24.4ton Lt-35 or variants thereof. No picture, should look like an enlarged Souma S-35 with a different turret- more like the Bille's-kinda like the OTL Czech Lt-35 with a pintle.

Current main gun is the Dutch 45mm, but turret ring was designed to also take a 75mm How. There was growth room planned into the suspension, but if Denmark has firme ground than the Dutch, you could also go for narrower tracks to lower weight/raise speed.

The tankbuilder of the Lt-35 is 2nd from the bottom of this link : Dutch Tanks
