Maybe thin the deck just a tad

and beef up those barbettes. Otherwise you'll have 152mm guns causing magazine explosions...

300mm for the main and ~220mm for the secondaries oughta do.

For a rebuild, keep the original keel-laying date for the hull, and the use refit date for the engines and guns, if new.

Kinda sorta like this?

Did what you suggested, and had about .11 left to play with so I dropped displacement, and dramatically increased the CT. Just remember everyone that this ship could be facing 16in shellfire.

That's a much more expensive rebuild...

New barbettes are a 75% rebuild, vice a 50% rebuild.

If you want to make her all 12" guns while keeping costs down, replace the 240mm twins with 305mm singles.

Or, for some measure of commonality with your cruisers, you could replace the 12" guns with 11.1" guns and the 240mm twins with single 11.1" mounts.

Whoops forgot to change the above freeboard from 2 to 4. Basically im trying to change her from a PDN to a DN BB. Heres the revised design, although I had to lighten the main belt to 11in, although thats still heavier than original.

I think you're leaving the realm of what is likely and entering the realm of the improbable. My advice? Use a lightly-modernized Amiral Murescu as a training ship, and build another Regele if you simply MUST have another capital ship.

9

Wednesday, February 20th 2008, 10:21pm

Another good idea for a PD.

Russia has kept Estafey around for that.

10

Wednesday, February 20th 2008, 10:45pm

I really don't consider the Regeles capital ships. They are more of a coast defence ship.

11

Wednesday, February 20th 2008, 11:38pm

I have to agree that getting new 305mm guns will be difficult. Also it will turn into a 75% refit. If you really want more 305mm guns I prefer the Russian's advice, will be cheaper.

12

Wednesday, February 20th 2008, 11:44pm

Hmm maybe ill just go with the original plan of modernization, thats the second design btw. I really don't have the resources to build anymore capital ships.

Given the age and size of the hull, it wouldn't be worth rebuilding her into anything other than a training ship or bombardment vessel.
