Wirth Reacts to South Atlantic Developments

Chancellor Joseph Wirth has reacted with dismay to announcements of new naval deployments to South America. "The reports over the past few days deeply trouble me. Nations such as Iberia, Russia, and Atlantis are not involved in the Argentina-Nordmark crisis, yet persist in sending whole fleets to the region. This accomplishes nothing except increase the risk of an incident that would broaden what is already a serious problem. I call upon Atlantis, France, Russia, and Iberia to cancel their deployments and instead concentrate solely on the forthcoming conference in Santiago de Cuba."

Chancellor Wirth ruled out German participation in the proposed conference, saying, "The Government of the Republic of Germany is satisfied - particularly given news from Nordmark two days ago - that its security is in no way threatened by the Argentina-Nordmark crisis. Our attendance will not be necessary." Chancellor Wirth later added that the destroyer patrols started in late June would be cancelled.

Meanwhile, preparations are being for a visit to the nation's capital by Indian ruler Raj Rajiv Canagasundrum, who is expected to arrive by train on about the 16th of the month. It is the first visit by an Indian ruler to Germany in more than a decade, and may lead to renewed ties between the two countries over the coming years. Raj Rajiv is, of course, on his way to Nordmark for the impending state funeral, and will be in Germany for approximately two days.
