2nd January 1923
In the Naval Expenditure Estimates for 1923 released today by the Ministry of Defence, the Navy has been allocated funds for the building of several new vessels, including the largest new vessel for the fleet is many years, the K.D.M. Hel.
When asked about the increase in the Navy’s budget, Prime Minister Niels Thomasius Neergaard said “The Navy is now under increasing pressure to meet it’s obligations to our overseas protectorates and territories, with a fleet that is in need of modernisation and expansion. It is the Crown’s wish that the government expedite this expansion within the confines of the budget for the current fiscal year, and the cabinet and I are happy to comply with the King’s wishes.”
The prime minister also stated that the firm of Ansaldo in Italy have been contracted to produce a series of fast patrol craft for the navy, the first of which are to be delivered in the late spring.
The facilities at 2 of the navy’s shipyards are also to be enlarged this year, to facilitate the further growth of the navy in future years.
