Eptanisa Class Destroyers

After some discussion I've noticed that the Greek Destroyers, while generally modern, have 17 ships that are 8+ yrs old, with 14 of them being 10+ yrs old and 12 of them being of a design that is no longer legal here. Therefore, I propose the following class of 8 to replace some of the older vessels. There will be a class of 10 DEs around 1200-1500t standard forth comming to replace the rest.

laid down starting 3Q/1939

393.00 ft / 390.00 ft x 39.00 ft x 12.25 ft (normal load)
119.79 m / 118.87 m x 11.89 m x 3.73 m

8 - 1.57" / 40.0 mm guns (4x2 guns), 2.14lbs / 0.97kg shells, 1939 Model
Anti-aircraft guns in deck mounts
on side, all amidships, all raised mounts - superfiring
12 - 0.79" / 20.0 mm guns (6x2 guns), 0.27lbs / 0.12kg shells, 1939 Model
Anti-aircraft guns in deck mounts

Main Belt covers 109 % of normal length
Main belt covers area from end of forecastle to start of quaterdeck, 5 ft above water, 3ft below it

- Gun armour: Face (max) Other gunhouse (avg) Barbette/hoist (max)
Main: 1.00" / 25 mm - 1.00" / 25 mm

The 5" mounts should probably be twins or singles, rather than the mix currently shipped. Not sure what the point of the 8mm's is, really, and the belt's pretty dubious as well (doubt it's strong enough to help against DD fire). The sea-keeping's abysmal as well,

Did you take over Greece?
Like to repeat Hrolf's comments, as well as the fact that you can still get 35.5 knots with normal seakeeping by raising the freeboard.

EDIT: Only noticed the thread in the main room after I posted this.

Perhaps a ship closer to the Latvian Varnois's is what you want?

Went with singles over twins for top weight issues. Am going to try a 3x2 aXy layout.

8mm are there for the hell of it.

Don't see the point in the belt either, but all other Greek DDs have one.

I can/probably will write up a story about the former head of design being replaced, something to do with the afore mentioned out-of-bounds DDs being structurally weak. Maybe I'll have one sink and the Board of Inquire will conclude that it sank do to a design flaw.

Seakeeping will be rectified when I remove the belt/8mm and raise the freeboard.

Love to see a deck view because you need quite some space for all those mounts.

8

Monday, May 17th 2010, 12:33am

It's better except for the seakeeping, which is only slightly improved.

Well, I figured that if this:

could fit 7 5" I'd just take it, add 40' in length, 0.70' beam, remove the B mount, replace the centerline 5" single with a platform for 2 twin 40mm, put 2 more twin 20mm next to the crane aft, and mount a 2nd quad TT in the extra 40' amidships.
