1st attempt at a Greek style CL

Improved Psara type CL. The main belt is thinner (4.75" vs 5") but deeper and longer. Added armor protection to the secondary and light AA guns. Switched the 5" to DP as these had been used on the Lysandros BBs so I figured they were in service weapons. Speed increased as well. Comments please.

Seems a bit big for the armament, but that might be just me. Lot of miscellaneous weight, too. Otherwise pretty good.

1)True. I was thinking w/ the added lenght/beam I may be able to squeeze two more twin 5" on the sides.
1a) I'd like to go 4x3x6", but don't know if Greece has a triple 6" yet.

2) Just copied what Alt_Naval had for the Psara and added 20 tons since she's bigger. Could cut it down, but I'm not quite familiar with what weighs what here. I know it's more of a 'agreement based on reasonableness" but some 'ballpark' figures would help.

Generally I try to assign about 1-2% of the ship's light displacement. The Callao I designed for Alvama is an exception, where I used 500 tons to represent a Tone-inspired aviation setup aft. It seems to be about par for other ships in the sim.

Went w/ 2% for Misc weight. Also tried 4x3x6" AND adding 2 more twin 5"DP. Cost me some belt armor (.5" thickness, .5' height, and 21' length) and barbette (3.5" vs 4") but allowed me to up the face armor to 3.5"(from 3") and the side/top armor to 1.75"(from 1"). Lost 0.03kts but added CT armor. Ended up being 40t lighter over all.

Why have a range of 9000nm at 15kn on a greek cruiser locked to the Med?

7

Thursday, May 13th 2010, 9:26am

Probably to annoy the Turks and any other nation along the Med who do not like the Greek. :)

Likely for the same reason Greece has 6 carriers.

Just copied alt_naval's last CL, the Psara class, and made some updates.

I agree wholeheartedly that that much range is excessive for the Med.

Unless, of course, one proposes to go everywhere at high speed. It's 1,451 nautical miles from Souda Bay on Crete to Gibraltar: there and back, this ship could maintain 21 knots or so depending on machinery characteristics and the powering curve. That would make life difficult for submarines and complicate the use of maritime aircraft by enlarging the search area.
