Háozhú
Guizhou Aviation Industry
Type: multi purpose aircraft
The háozhú (porcupine) is an armed military observation and attack aircraft, designed for battlefield surveillance and light strike capabilities.
It is also intended to operate from short, unimproved runways as support for the Chinese Army forces.
The háozhú's mission would include observation, artillery spotting, air control, emergency supply and liaison. It was planned to build a version
for the chinese Navy. Therefore it was specified that the aircraft must be capable of operating from the biggest chinese carriers, so folded wings
have to be added to the navy version. But after first tests it was decided that this aircraft would not at all corespondend to the requirements of
a navy aircraft. For this reason, this request was dropped and no navy version will be build.
It is a relatively slow but highly maneuverable aircraft. As the machine is very vulnerable due to their low speed, they got a good cockpit armor.
A particular design feature is a tail with three fins and a light V-position of the horizontal stabilizer which is sufficient to impart the fin a
slight inward inclination.
