The chinese navy intended to convert the old Thrasius-Class Cruisers to an assault ship, which could be used as amphibious support vessel. Therefore China bought in 1940 4 vessels of this class from Mexico. During the investigation about the realisation of this rebuilding, it was decided to build new vessels instead of converting these old ships. Finally the vessels were not taken in service and were scrapped 1941 at Dairen.
