1) War in the Atlantic

The formal declaration of war made yesterday by Nordmark against Argentina legitimised the rumours that have been circulating the intelligent communities of the world.
A spokesman for the Hellenic Secret Intelligent Serves (HSIS.) who identified him self only as agent Gamma said that his department had informed the acting Prime Minister General Leonidas Laconia on the 23/6 that a clandestine war was being waged in the Atlantic by the above mentioned nations. Agent Gamma also informed us that his department at the time had made recommendations that would protect our expatriate communities and economic interests in the region.

Admiral Takis Talknotalotalopoles acting minister of defence stated earlier today that the Greek military had already acted on the recommendations put forward by the HSIS. The two newly acquired battle cruisers Atlantis and Illyrian (Albania) that were due to arrive in Salamis naval station on the 3/7, have remained in Atlantis and will be shortly joined by the heavy cruiser Boombelina that had secretly left Souda bay on the 24/6. These ships are there to provide protection to all Greek shipping vacating the war zone. Admiral Talknotalotalopoles expressed his hope that the warring nations will respect our neutrality and understand that our ships will only fire on those who attack them or any Greek flagged merchant vessel.

The Admiral also added that the defence department has finalised with the help of the Hellenic Maritime Union and several local shipping companies the lease of six large passenger liners to return our expatriates to the homeland. These ships will depart on the 2/7 for Brazil The Ministry of Greeks abroad with the help of embassy staff stationed in Argentina have spent the last six days contacting and evacuating these communities. We have also helped in the evacuation of a number of foreign nationals that have been unable to get to their own embassies, a few hundred Indians, Atlantean’s; Nordmarkians South Africans and even some Italians were amongst this group.

Admiral Talknotalotalopoles said that the Intelligence assessment presented to him expressed grave concern on the stability of Argentina after the war. We do not believe said the admiral that Nordmark has the ability nor the intention of invading that country, but we are concerned on what will happen to the stability of Argentina if the ruling junta loose this war. We do believe that such an outcome is highly probable and the corresponding economic and political turmoil that may follow will bring about a very violent military crackdown on anti government forces, which will ultimately spiral all the way to civil war. Such wars in that part of the world tend to be very brutal and indiscriminate and this is the reason we have taken to the task of evacuating our fellow Greeks and any other civilian that may wish to leave.

When asked how long this operation will last the admiral replied, hopefully no longer then three more weeks. We have evacuated 18.000 so far, 6000 on several Greek ships that were in Argentinean ports at the commencement of hostilities and 12000 into Uruguay and from they’re to Brazil where our ships will pick them up and return them to Greece. The remanning 33000 would be evacuated out of Argentina and temporally housed in Brazil or Uruguay within three weeks from now. From those countries they will eventually join their compatriots in Greece. On completion of this mission our warships will also return to their homeports.

So far the Argentinean government has not hindered our attempts to evacuate our nationals and this seems to prove that an agreement has been reached with them. It has been alleged but not yet officially confirmed that the Argentinean ambassador and the military attaché of the Athens embassy had a private meeting with our head of the joint chief of staff Air marshal Phillip Pyrrhus. Its been said that during this meeting our Air marshal explained that there will be dire consequences if Argentina tries to interfere with the evacuation.

At this point of time the last thing that Argentina needs is to also bring down on its head the displeasure of a second European nation. So far their has been little communication with Nordmark due to the extraordinary security clampdown that has been in place since the commencement of hostilities but it’s generally believed that Nordmark being a nation that respects international law will not interfere with what is purely a pre-emptive humanitarian effort.

2) Indian Royals request transit

The Indian embassy on behalf of the Raj and Rana has formerly requested permission for two of their war ships, SR Bangalore and SR Jaipur to transit Greek territorial waters. The Indian ambassador also requested permission for the royal couple and their entourage to disembark in a Greek port and assistants in the organization and leasing of a train. The spokesman for the foreign affairs department, Colonel Yannis Touristas said that permission of transit has been granted and that negotiations with the Orient Express Consortium for the leas of a train has almost been finalised.

Colonel Touristas said that the quickest way for the royals to get to Nordmark would be through Thessalonica. That city has been one of the whistle stops for the famous Orient express way back to the time it was still occupied by the Ottomoms. To speed up their journey we are currently negotiating with Italy for permission of transit for both Indian and the Greek war ships that will be escorting them through the Karpathos gulf, this region is within the Italian Dodecanese Islands territorial waters. We truly hope Italy responds favourably to our requests.

For the safety of the foreign royals it had been decided to send an escort that will join up with the Indian warships at Suez. This escort will consist of the heavy cruiser Elli, sister ship of the Boombelina and three destroyers whose names have yet to be revealed. To save time by avoiding the need to refuel the destroyers the original group of three would be replaced by a second fully fuelled group of destroyers once they enter Greek territorial waters. The heavy cruiser Elli will have sufficient fuel for its trip.

3) King to attend funeral?

The Ministry of internal security has yet to reveal if our king will attend the funeral of Nordmark’s royals. At the moment the inner ruling council has yet to decide if the diplomatic risk of offending Nordmark is greater then the danger of sending our king overseas. An insider revealed that the final decision wouldn’t be arrived at for at least a week.

In all likelihood if the king is allowed to attend the funeral, his family will be required to remain behind. A security team that will insure that he returns, weather he wants to or not would also accompany him.

Diplomatic note from the Nordmark government

Diplomatic note from the Nordmark government
The note has appeared in Nordmark and Greek newspapers June 31st, one day after it was handed over the the Greek diplomatic representative in Stockholm and the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens.

At this point in time, the Government of Nordmark finds it fortuitous to clarify that the war inwhich it finds itself - against its own will and intentions - will not from the side of the Kingdom of Nordmark be prosecuted as a war of trade, of raiding ships on the high seas. This will be a military campaign, with military objectives. To the extent that clandestine war has been waged in the South Atlantic, it certainly has not been waged by the Kingdom of Nordmark, though our navy and our merchant fleet assuredly has felt the effects.

The Nordmark Government wishes to express its gratitude and admiration for the Greek evacuational efforts undertaken. It is, however, regrettable that the civilian Nordmark citizens in Argentina have not at this point been released by that nation's government, in contradiction of international law - only by chance did some few manage to escape the clutches of Argentina and find solace with valiant and generous Greece. These actions of the Argentine government only serve to solidify the resolve of the people of Nordmark.

The Nordmark government can assure the Greek government that if HM the King of greece does undertake a journey to the Kingdom of Nordmark,he will, even under the present circumstances, be met witha hospitality and warmth that will outshine even the famed Compagnie Internationale des Wagons Lit (CIWL).

CIWL - the International Sleeping Car Company - is the company which owns the famous Orient Express railway-carriages, and provides the staff - the locomotives were provided by the national railways.
