New Russian ships for 1943

The most significant new ships the Russian Federation will be laying down in 1943 are two Perm class ice-capable oil tankers. While not icebreakers, their strengthened hulls permit an additional margin of safety when transiting the Northern Sea Route under icebreaker escort. Their high freeboard at normal displacement provides for sufficient freeboard at maximum displacement

Because of their unique requirements, they are being built to naval, not merchant standards (meaning I'm paying for 'em in full).

Other activities for Russian shipyards in 1943 will be laying down a follow-on to the carrier escort Khranitel, Chasovoi, ten new Delfin class fleet submarines, reconstruction of two more armored cruisers into amphibious command and fire support ships, two more conversions of merchant ships into escort carriers, refitting the Admiral Ushakov class light cruisers, converting another Atlantic class repair ship, building another large shallow-draft icebreaker, building another ten Gostinitsa class partol boats, and refitting a number of older corvettes.

Russian yards will have a busy 1943!

Rebuilding the Admiral Ushakov class

Rebuilding the Admiral Ushakov class will address a number of problems the class has had the past few years, and will make them into effective, modern units. Throughout their service lives, they have been unpopular with their crews while steaming the stormy seas above the North Cape, due to their wetness forward. Raising the stem and modifying the bow addresses this problem. They also lacked a modern electronic fit, which they now have. Due to new engines, they have significantly greater range on the same bunkerage. The new, lighter engines also permit the addition of radars without straining the hull.
