Chilean Ships for 1944

Well, not much going on this year in Chile.

Two destroyers, tentatively named Almirante Williams and Almirante Riveros, will be laid down in January. These ships will be assigned as the flotilla leaders for the 5th Destroyer Squadron, composed of the six ex-German Voluntario class vessels. As a result, they'll feature the same 4x130mm armament as the Voluntarios. If the class is deemed successful, further units may be ordered; but this will not happen in 1944.

Chile has elected to order a sistership for the minelayer Covadonga, to be named 21 de Mayo, which will be constructed in Argentina.

For small craft, the Armada has purchased the plans and license for an American-designed submarine chaser class, four units of which will be ordered under the name of the Loa-class.

As for the rest, it's generally continuing construction, or repeats of previous designs.
