Note 1

CDS Gungnir is rebuild to our 25% rule. She swaps her secondaries for 18x 75mm AA guns, and trades 5 tons of misc weight, 4 20mm guns and her torps for it too, while 20cm higher plates are welded to her stem.

Note 2

CA Fafnir is rebuild to our 50% rule. She trades her torpedos, secondary and tertiary batteries for twenty-four 75mm guns and 4 additional 20mm machine cannons. Armor remains untouched but a new power plant is installed, providing an additional 10,000 kW for another 1,07kn of speed and more misc weight to allow the installation of a full set of the latest electronics. Her stem is raised to keep her bow dry and to compensate for her modified weights.

Would not the addition of the 20cm plates to her stem cause the refit of the Gungnir to fall under the provisions of "Change to bow form" of Rule 2.2.2.5 and mandate a 50% reconstruction?

Hum. According to the letter of the rules, it would be... but on the other hand, it does seem rather silly to pay twice as much just for what in real life would be a more like building a waterproof fence than anything else...

In researching the matter, I wonder if what is proposed is a sort of "trawler bow", where the hull plating extends above the deck level? It would help break the force of water coming over the bow. Still, it would change the shape of the bow and, I presume, the measured height above water of the bow - which in turn impacts Springsharp.

That does seem to be what I'd envisioned from the description.

Hi!

My intention was to keep her original bow and deck as is but add some more centimeters in height (and horizontal) above as some kind of add-on spray deflection because her deck does not raise much and I expect her to have a spray issue for A turret (roleplaying, SS does not rate her wet forward in her original configuration). The modification is minimal (e.g. seakeeping remains the same) but as you said according the letter of our rules it is a modification of the ships bow - her average freeboard is raised by 3cm. In effect her stability drops from 1,12 to 1,11 with some small impact on other stats.

As it does not make sense to pay twice as much just for an idea with no real payback, I'll drop the idea and keep her bow low.

Btw, thanks for your feedback anyway. I had to recheck the design and noted I used the wrong shell weight for those new 75mm guns. Raising shell weight by 200 gramms per shell has no impact on the sim but on its report. So I could correct this issue...
