Axe Falls on Naval Plans

The new Social Democrat government, now a little over a month in power, has started to implement the pre-election promises it made. And with that time used to get used to their portfolios, the new ministers have started to flex their political muscles.

The Minister for Defence and brother of the new Prime Minister, Christian Anders Zahle, announced that the naval budget was being slashed. "We promised before the election to cut naval spending, and to redirect the money elsewhere.
Effective immediately, there will be no new building projects for the forseeable future. Any vessels already laid down will be allowed to be completed, and the contract with Ansaldo of Italy for STC's will not be re-newed at the start of July."

When asked to comment on the cancellation of new ship building, Mr. Neils Petersen, leader of the Shipyard Workers Union, said " This is going to devestate the communities around the Naval shipyards. These areas rely heavily on the money put into the local economy by the workers of the yards, and this is a blatant attack on the working classes. For a party that claims to have the interests of the people in mind, they have a very funny way of showing it!"
