German Events, Q1 & Q2 1928

11 February, 1928 – near Meppen – a stray round from Krupp’s Meppen test range killed two cows in a farmer’s field this morning. The fields are approximately 6km from the edge of the range, and had never before been in any danger. Luckily, the round was an inert, unfused projectile, or worse damage would have been done. A representative for the firm confirmed the accident, saying “We were testing a concept that Dr. von Eberhard developed during the Great War, and clearly it did not behave as we had expected. New precautions will be taken and this accident will not be repeated.”

14 April, 1928 – Kiel – Another new light cruiser, Ersatz Medusa, has been laid down in the city of Kiel for the Kriegsmarine. It is reported that this ship will be similar to, but of a new class, the Koln-class cruisers, the last of which, Bremen, was completed late last year and is just now finishing it’s first working-up cruise in the southern Baltic. Because of the changes from the previous design, no contract for a follow-on ship has been let yet, to allow the shipyard and designers to work through any problems on this ship.

1 June, 1928 – Hamburg – With parliamentary elections a little over three weeks away, the parties of the extreme left and right continue their marching and street battles. A peaceful march of KPD supporters was attacked by NSDAP supporters armed with clubs, bottles, and knives, with several injured in the afternoon. In the evening, the local NSDAP headquarters was burned to the ground by a KPD-supporting mob. No injuries were reported in the arson.

28 June, 1928 – Elections from the elections two days ago have now been tallied, and the results are:
Social Democrat – 25%
National Party – 25%
Catholic Center – 16%
Communist – 7%
German People’s – 7%
Economic – 6%
Democratic – 5%
National Socialist – 3%
Bavarian People’s – 3%
various fringe – 3%

Professor Kurt Schroeder, of Weimar University, offered these thoughts on the results. “These elections showed the Left and the Right in approximate balance, especially when you consider that the Communists are anathema to the Social Democrats. I expect President Braun to offer Chancellor Cuno the opportunity to try to reform the coalition that has been governing Germany, though that coalition has had its margin in the Reichstag trimmed. If that option fails, then there could be any number of outcomes: a grand coalition, with the Social Democrats, the Catholic Center, and the National Party in a government, perhaps supported by the German People’s Party; or a center-right coalition, with the National Party, Catholic Center, German Peoples, and the Economic Party, or something else entirely. I suspect that there will be a fair amount of back-room wrestling and deal-making before the next government is seated."

Interesting, I couldn't find any information on "Dr. von Eberhard's" gun design. Rocket-boosted spin-stabilised shells?

Nice. I've searched everywhere for early use of sabots, but hadn't found anything pre-WWII so far. You've paved the way to some great developments I planned [evil laugh].
