October 1
Today at the Astillero Nav shipyard at Puerto Belgrano another new vessel was laid down for the Navy. The Baradero is a modified Indomita Class torpedo boat and was ordered to replace a sunken vessel of that class. She is due to be completed by August 1938.

Also today the Navy began work on two more vessels. The former Paraguayan State Boatyards at Encarnation where taken over by the AFNE concern and they have invested in new equipment and repairs have been made to several machine sheds and the former workforce, unemployed since mid 1934, have now returned to work. The investment in the AFNE Paraguay yard would be wasted unless orders were received and to help the new yard get back into business the Argentine Navy has ordered two new gunboats from them.
The Parana and Rosario are new gunboats to replace two older ships of the same names now currently in reserve. Both will be armed with Army-standard 155mm and 75mm weapons and will be diesel powered. A total of four units are planned for construction, the first two are due to complete in February 1938.

October 10
Social Affairs Minister Pablo Suarez today announced that from January 1st 1938 the old age pension would rise by 5% and the unemployment benefit would rise by 2.5%. This would be met by an increase in the Social Insurance Tax of 1%.

October 11
The Defence Ministry today confirmed that it has ordered another sixty C-4M35 4x4 light armoured cars to bring total orders to 120, of which 52 have now been delivered. These will replace the last of the old open-topped C-1M31 conversions in Army service.

October 23
Today the latest Mendoza Class destroyer, the Drummond was officially commissioned. She is armed with the latest 115mm dual-purpose guns, eight 600mm torpedoes and can reach 34kts. Drummond is the latest type of the destroyer and was built by Astillero Nav at Puerto Belgrano. She will be the last of the Mendoza Class which fought with distinction during the recent war. She will now undertake two months basic training with her new crew after the builder’s trials were fully satisfactory.

Today the world-respected and Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Labour and Industry Minister Carlos Saavedra Lamas stood up in the Chamber of Deputies and announced a government plan to nationalise the oil and steel industries. As soon as he mentioned these words the Conservative Party deputies began to jeer and heckle. When Carlos Saavedra Lamas sat down the Conservative Party leader Jose Marcos de Ballista began a long tirade warning of a socialist dictatorship that would destroy Argentine industry and the entire economy. United Workers Party deputies drowned out his speech with jeers and several Marxist deputies then rose chanting “Industry in the hands of the people! Economic freedom for the People!” The Chamber Speaker had to urge the members to remain calm and nearly dissolved the session. Eventually the Democratic Union leader Enrique Pastelle made a call for a proper debate and warned the dangers of trade union control of the economy. In response the Finance Minister Leopoldo Noriega rose to say he would not let the unions run his economy. This raised jeers from his United Workers Party coalition allies.

November 15
Today the destroyer Entre Rios was launched at the AFNE Yard at Bahia Blanca and the ceremonies were witnessed by a crowd of 8,000 spectators. The Mayor of Bahia Blanca’s daughter launched the ship. Entre Rios is the fifth of the Project 414 Torpedo Destroyer class to be built. She should be completed during May 1938.

Meanwhile at the AFNE Paraguay shipyard much celebration surrounded the first two ships to be launched from the yard, the gunboats Parana and Rosario. Parana was launched down her slipway and Rosario was floated out of the drydock in which she was built later in the afternoon. Both are now tied up at the fitting out yard and work is progressing well according the schedule.

Today at FMA’s Cordoba facility the biggest aircraft yet conceived in Argentina took off on its maiden flight. The prototype I.Ae 7 was flown by test pilot Flight Capitan Juan Estavez, co-pilot Lieutenant de Aero Claudio Chavez and engineer Horacico Castro. The thirty minute flight went well and although the undercarriage was not raised the aircraft handled well. Some trim problems were encountered but overall Flight Capitan Juan Estavez was pleased with the aircraft.
The I.Ae.7 has been developed to specifications laid down by Aeravias Argentinas S.A. for a new long-range airliner that should enter service in 1939. This is the biggest aircraft yet attempted in Argentina and it should be technically equal to any type available form America or Europe and ten have been ordered by Aeravias Argentinas S.A. off the drawing board. The wingspan is 32m; length 25m and wing area 1,300 sq ft; the four 1,380hp Bristol Hercules IVC twin-row radial engines should power the airliner to 275mph at 13,000ft and range with full fuel load in still air at 50% rated power should be 1,700miles. The pilot and co-pilot are seated in the cockpit with the navigator and radio-operator in a cabin behind, aft of this is the mail hold and galley then the main compartment 9.75m long; 3m wide; 2.13m high seating 36 passengers four-abreast. Aft is male and female toilets and baggage compartment, another is located under the forward cabin floor. Future developments of this interesting type may include a pressure-cabin for higher altitude flights.

December 23
The crane began lowering the pallet down from the ship’s side to flatbed train wagon on the quayside. Six dockers were directing it softly onto the concrete. Also on the quayside was a group of Army officers including Major General Antonio Miguel Barbera. Behind them Army photographers were clicking away with their cameras. A man climbed up to lift the canvas covers for the assembled officers and photographer. “Well men, this is the first of our new Panzer Twos. Our latest tank of the latest European type, one of the best light tanks in the world. Much better than our old Vickers six-tonners.” As he stood back as the crane was raising the second tank out of the ship’s hold.

I just got done shooting Panzer IIs in Mare Nostrum. Easy prey for a Valentine. :D (Unlike that abominable Tiger I that keeps the IIs company, which requires six or seven rounds shot straight into its hindquarters, or one very very lucky shot in the sweet spot...)

Heh, well...... WW Panzer IIs are a little tougher targets than historical Panzer IIs, but they are still light tanks.
