Well, as ever, I hope I made no mistakes. In the Q4, 1922 report, I accidentally put the Shoho up as completed, but it is still under construction.

Reading reports

Hi Walter,

as always your report is very difficult to read. Is there any chance you´ll change that in the future?

As for your Kii-class designs - does Japan really seriously consider using a gun caliber smaller than that of other nations? A 36cm gun surely would be unique and I doubt it makes much sense to have 14" (35,6cm) guns on older units and 36cm on new ones. Will makes your supply officers head spin, I guess.

However, interesting post...

Regards,

HoOmAn

I agree perhaps a post in rocky's admirable format in addition to the existing ones would definately make it easier to read!

8

Tuesday, May 18th 2004, 2:21pm

If I'm not mistaken, Walter's been consistently using 36 cm guns on his variants of the historical Japanese ships. In which case he's actually keep his logisticians' lives pretty simple.

9

Tuesday, May 18th 2004, 2:48pm

Correct. Walter is using the 36cm gun for Fuso and Nagato Classes, Models 1914 and 1918.
In WWII Japan had the following calibers in service at the same time; 150mm, 6" and 155mm. Why? logistical hell follows.

I still don't know why there is no Kii design mounting 10x38cm in 5 turrets.

10

Tuesday, May 18th 2004, 4:07pm

There is a reason why it is so difficult to read. Should I overlook a mistake I made before posting the report, you would probably not notice it because you'd have a hard time reading the report.
:-)
Actually this is the first time someone mentions it (and it is the 9th Report) so the question is: Is it difficult because of the layout of the report, or is it difficult to read because there are so many ships on the list?

About the guns, HoOman. I assume that you are referring to the fact that I will have to deal with three types of 36cm shells, right? (one type for the 1914 model, one type for the 1918 model and one type for the latest version of the gun)

erhmmm....

Don´t you use 14" guns on your older vessels? I´m a little bit confused...

12

Tuesday, May 18th 2004, 5:14pm

the report is very hard to read because there is no grouping by ship type and no mention of which ship class each vessel is.

13

Tuesday, May 18th 2004, 5:45pm

The original designs of the Fuso and Nagato did indeed have 14 inch guns but that was because I used the imperial vesion of Springstyle. With Spring Sharp I could mix imperial and metric so at one point I started to use imperial for dimensions and armor and metric for armament. I did slightly alter the designs so that I would have 36 cm instead of 35.56 cm guns and 20 cm instead of 20,32 cm guns, etc because to me it looks better metric-wise.

Quoted

the report is very hard to read because there is no grouping by ship type and no mention of which ship class each vessel is.

I only group them by ship type in the first part of "I) Ships already under construction" and "II) Ships started in the first quarter".
And what class the vessel belongs to is only mentioned when they are laid down.
I'll go and ajust it...

Walter
