Black Sea Fleet Chief of Logistics arrested!
Chief of Rear Services for the Russian Federation Black Sea Fleet, Captain First Rank Stepan Vasilievich Korienchuk, has been arrested on suspicion of appropriating fuel oil and selling it for personal gain. The amount in question, over 5,000 tons, is more than sufficient to fill the tanks of a battleship. Sources close to investigation say that Captain Korienchuk may have diverted similar quantities of fuel oil on two other occasions. Chief of Naval Staff Fleet Admiral Nikolai Gerasimovich Kuznetsov, had the following comment:
"Present government of Russian Federation, in contrast to predecessors, take great trouble and expense to ensure that Russian fleets have fuel, and ammunition, that Russian Federation Navy may train under all conditions found in wartime. It is to be expended ensuring high levels of leadership ability, crew skill, and material readiness in Russian fleets. This policy places great trust in command and staff personnel. If this trust is abused, perpetrators will be discovered and punished, to uttermost extent of law."
Captain Korienchuk faces a sentence of up to 10 years if found guilty by military court.
While personal gain is motivation alledged by military procurator at this time for this crime, rumors in the Black Fleet Staff have it that proceeds were actually intended to finance activities of Bessarabian separatists. Should such rumors be substantiated, sentence could be life imprisonment for treason.
