Peru News and Events Q4/34

October 12th 1934 - News from the city of San Francisco state that it seems the naval conference in that city is turning into a fiasco; with the refusal of India and Italy of sending representatives, the Japanese pulling out of talks in the middle and the refusal of some nations like Atlantis of even discussing further reductions as the ones to blame for the failure.

Minister de la Garza, present in San Francisco as an observer, stated that "it seems the representatives only came here to enjoy the tourist attractions the city have to offer, with some delegates actually being know to spent more time in bars that in the conference."

He also stated he will be leaving early, returning as early as the 15th after stops in Cuba to visit the Iberian installations in that island.

Italy hasn't refused to send a representative, just that the domestic situation (i.e. near civil "war") is considerably more important at the present moment.

It just a personal opinion of a reporter in a newspaper, knowing the press they are not 100% reliable. :D

October 16th 1934- Brigadier General Sanz read the reports of the expected arrival of the filipino build Lt-33(1) by early next year and smiled. It was supposed to be used to replace the Vickers on the armored regiment but now he was lobbying hard to keep the Vickers to create a full tank regiment and change the regiment to a brigade.(2)

He was already on the good side of Minister Arjona due to his victory in the capture of Santa Cruz and with the expected addition of the motorcycle battalion to the order of battle of his unit he could have the first armored brigade this side of the Andes mountains if his letters to Marshall Arjona work their magic.

(1)Lt-33 specifications

4 crew members
Length: 4.89 meters
Width: 2.81 meters
Height: 2.3 meters
Weight: 10.2 tonnes
Armour: 25mm
Main armament: 45mm
Secondary: 2x 7.7mm MGs
Engine: 110hp
Speed: 32 km/h
Range: 182 km

(2) create two additional tank battalions

October 19th 1934- It was announced today that former General Toro(1) has being sweared as provisional president of Bolivia. The ceremony was very short but according to the Nato/League commander "the normalization of Bolivia is paramount to our mission so we applaud this."

October 22nd 1934- Marshall Arjona announced today that one of the forming infantry regiments will be disbanded and their personnel was going to be used to create ten additional antiaircraft battalions.

He stated the move was necessary "to make possible the TO&E of the projected brigades. It's possible more units will be also disbanded to raise the necessary personnel for this task and I hope I receive the support of everyone in our armed forces."

Helmets with dead chickens fastened to them. I certainly hope that Peru is not going that way with their motorcycle units (or any of their other armed forces units). :)

Edited due to world events, again

November 3rd 1934- The Ministry of the Navy announced today the arrival of the battleship Manco Capac to El Callao.

In a more subdued ceremony the new addition to the fleet was presented to the public. Minister de La Garza stated that "they will be the last capital ships that our nation will acquire in the near future, a sign to our neighbors that our intentions are peaceful."

November 15th 1934 Almirante Raul Velasco (1) has to admit the fleet was indeed growing. The fleet he was taking north to meet the Iberians for the annual maneuvers was larger than last year.

Instead of the five destroyers that made the trip last year they were being escorted by the recently acquired destroyers of the 2nd Squadron (3), but everyone's eyes were at the newest additions to the fleet. In the center of the formation, the Atahualpa (4) and the Manco Capac were indeed a sign to behold being the largest ships in the formation. Many recommended Velasco to change his flag to either one of the bigger ship but he liked his current flagship(5), understanding the flag facilities build on it made it a better command and control ship but he was tempted to do exactly that for a time.

Velasco turned to the radiomen and informed them to get in touch with the Iberians to meet in the preaccorded coordinates. The Admiral has to admit he was excited. It was the first time the Iberians has send the Santa Maria's to train with them and he was looking forward to it.

Hmm, time to have Cinco de Mayo pay the Peruvians another visit...

Speaking of which, you need to put the Ex-Poseidon's stats up in your encyclopedia entries Foxy.

Rather than shadow, why not conduct your own excersizes with either the U.S. or Atlantis? Memnon and her group are on their way back home from San Francisco.

I tend to agree here. This is the second year of joint Iberian-Peruvian exercises and it makes sense for Mexico have exercises with their Nato allies.

The alliance IIRC is close to a year old now, plenty of time to plan some kind of joint exercise between your fleets. A joint US-Mexico-Atlantis exercise perhaps?

I also remember the backlash over Chiles shadowing of the Peruvians, might save you some greif to avoid that type of action!

Well didn't we have that excercise a while back planned?

The visit could be friendly, no shadowing involved. Besides I have to pick some planes up from Argentina...

Thanks for reminding me about Poseidon...
