Why do you need so many Type 1 slips?

4

Friday, April 8th 2005, 12:58pm

Probably some evil plan involving the creation of thousand-and-one destroyers.
:-)

5

Friday, April 8th 2005, 2:28pm

I thought that was your evil plan, Walter.

Kinda agree with Hooman - you've got lots of idle slips as it is.

I'm afraid I don't understand the cruiser conversion. Is there a mistake of some kind with the armament - 5.5" replacing 7.5"? Cuz it seems like you're better off not doing the rebuild as presented here...

6

Friday, April 8th 2005, 4:14pm

I though my evil plan involved the creation of thousand-and-one battleships.

7

Friday, April 8th 2005, 4:17pm

If so, I'd say you were behind schedule.

8

Friday, April 8th 2005, 4:26pm

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay behind schedule.
I'll start construction in 1930 and don't know when I will stop.

9

Friday, April 8th 2005, 4:51pm

How about a thousand and one battle-destroyers?

10

Friday, April 8th 2005, 7:22pm

*note* Medusa class CA = 7.5" Gun
Medusa class CL = 5.5" Gun

Anything larger than 6" rates the ship as a CA
Anything above 8000 tons rates it as a CA

The Medusa class are under 8000 tons put mount a gun larger that 6"

As for Type 1's I wasn't aware I was building any new ones, I'm currently on a type 0 binge in order to build smaller warships in sufficient numbers.

11

Friday, April 8th 2005, 7:35pm

I get that part, Wes.

But 6 x 5.5" on a 7,500 ton hull is really under-armed. The rebuilt Kolkata class have a similar battery on 4,000 t.

You've got to do a rebuild anyway (on account of new machinery), so why not install 5.5 twin turrets or shielded mounts instead? Lord knows you have the hull strength for it.

12

Friday, April 8th 2005, 7:52pm

The Problem is the Ares class mount the new 6" turret, so it wouldn't make sence to revert back to a 5.5" mount. Utilizing spare 5.5" guns is a quick easy solution.
The the converted Medusa's also now ship a catipult, float plane and additional AA which takes up more space than the original armament.

6x 14cm might not be much for a 7500ts hull but then again it´s not that bad either. At least it should be suffice to fight most other light cruisers, especially older ones. Historically YUBARI had a similar battery on a much smaller hull but also suffered from hull cracks, an overloaded hull, topweight issues etc. Wes will hardly have these problems with his cruiser.

The major benifits are a more versatile design with improved AA and scouting capability's and CA tonnage that is freed up for newer ships. With Italy, Japan, the SAE, the U.S. and UK all building CA's Atlantis needs to keep its CA fleet up to snuff.

I usually egnore the "design undergunned" statement because some of the historical designs would seem to recieve a similar tag despite their adequate service historically.

I also seemed to have missed the extra torpedo's that I planned on adding to the design. I'll try resimming her with the added torps and see if it makes any difference at all.
