Persian Ships for 1942

Apparently I haven't posted anything for Persia thus far.

So this is the new sloop design. They'll be used primarily for protecting tankers, either individually or as the flagship of small escort groups.

I suspect the Persians will find the design over-gunned with six main guns, but they can deal with that later.

Persia's looking at one per year for a few years.

And this is the new destroyer design.

Seakeeping isn't great, but you know by now my assumptions about destroyer seakeeping values.

There's a lot of miscellaneous weight, to be sure - it provides the Persians with room to tinker with this basic ship for a long time if they can't afford replacements.

One per year, probably for a batch of two or three before a new design replaces it.

I was going to comment that the sloop looked overgunned to me, but you beat me to it. It's about the same tonnage as the Chilean Bolados class for 1943, but with three times the gun armament. Still, for a compact sloop, seems decent.

I notice you're now assigning weight for radar. Is Persia receiving radar from India? Actually, I don't even recall seeing all that much about India having radar, so I'm curious to know more about it in general...

4

Tuesday, September 11th 2012, 4:21pm

I'm assuming India has radar in hand at this point - probably has for a couple years given the +5 rule.

The Persians will be picking it up from them, I imagine. This might be their first ship so-fitted, as I'm not sure whether any was designed into their cruisers.

5

Tuesday, September 11th 2012, 4:45pm

Huh.

Yeah, I think I might go back and re-work the sloop -ditch a 130mm twin mount and add a little speed, maybe. Too much armament on her right now.

But until then, you've got a sense of the capabilities...
