Marinkuriren April 2nd 1921: Husquarna and MYA expand

Nordmark's famous manufacturer of washing-machines, sewing-machines, machine-guns, rifles, and siege-artillery, Husquarna, has acquired a decisive share of ailing British aeroplane manufacturer Sopwith, accroding to a spokesman for the company. As a result of the acquisition, Husquarna will built up an aviation-division in Sweden, to cater mainly to the needs of the Royal Nordmark Navy. Initial production is expected to focus on a version of the Sopwith Cuckoo torpedo-bomber scout, to serve with the Royal Nordmark Navy Air Service's landbased units, and to serve as the foundation for the designs of Husquarna's own aeroplane division. There has so far been no comment from Svea Aero AB (S.A.A.B.), while Lieutenant-Colonel Persson of the Army Aeroplane Works has expressed some doubts as to the prudence in the move from Husquarna. Director of Aircraft Design at the Navy Aeroplane Factory Main Division at Karlskrona, Commodore Esekielsen, was not available as this is written

------------

Malmö-Ystad Armorier (MYA), recently noted for its succesful development of the new 13cm QF guns for the Navy's destroyers, has announced plans to contend for the developments and production of new series of 15cm, 21cm, and 38cm guns for the Royal Nordmark Navy. Observers note that if MYA succeeds in gaining such contracts, it will be a major breaktrhough for the company, which until 2 years ago was expected to go under in face of failing to achieve a series of armaments contracts. The contract for the 13cm QF gun was in many ways a life-saver for the company, and, despite early unconfirmed reports of design-problems, seems to have become an unqualified success in Navy service.

Interesting....

Is this Sopwith-story based on historical incidents and data?

Historically Sopwith went bankrupt in 1918 or 1919 - they had just completed an enormous expansion of their factories when the war ended and all orders were cancelled.

This is an Official Big Deal

A major acquisition, of undoubtable strategic importance.

The governments of the Republic of France and the Russian Federation offer their congratulations to the government of Nordmark, for their strategic and financial astuteness.
