Colombian tank battalions 1942
The Colombians difficulty in handling large formations coupled with a limited military budget and logistical difficulties resulted in a restructuring of the Tank battalions in 1942 into smaller more flexible formations. As a result the number of battalions available tripled while standardization of the tank types by and large was retained. The venerable AT-17 and AT-27's were taken out of service and the AT-34 was selected to replace them as training tanks and in some HQ units. In addition the T-1 armored cars were taken out of service and replaced with additional T-2 armored cars were needed. An order was placed for AT-36 and AT-37 tanks as well as T-3 armored cars to form heavy and medium units. Also, several separate tank battalions were created using the tanks left over from restructuring and were used to support infantry units.
