Used my near-miscount of the Chile/Canada score to produce the nearly-scoreless last-second showdown of that game.

The Canadian team is just confused; There's no ice, and the officials took away their skates and sticks.

Official suspicion is that a foul Japanese plot is afoot.

Well, in the third round, you did just trounce the US 2-0. Not that that matters now. :P

Well, I never said it was large, I just said it was supportive. The players' mothers were all in the stands shouting "Woohoo, that's my boy! Go Junior!"

May 25
Argentines turned out in record numbers to see the final qualifying match for the World Cup. To go to Paris, Argentina had to defeat their neighbor Chile, undefeated so far in the qualifiers. To make the issue more pronounced, the game would be played in Cordoba on May 25th, Argentina's Revolución de Mayo national holiday, in front of a packed stadium of fans. The Argentine team rose to the challenge, stunning the Chilean team with a rapid and well-organized assault that showed Argentine teamwork at its finest. Though the Argentines largely controlled the tempo of the game, scoring once in the first half and again in the second, the Chileans grimly organized an effective defense, and with the score 2-0, tried to stage a comeback, scoring their only goal in the second half. However, they were unable to overcome the Argentine's spirit and excellent teamwork, and conceded the game to the Argentines. Both sides commented that the game was "some of the best football we've ever played". The huge Argentine crowd agreed.

Argentina 2, Chile 1

May 31
Mexico returned to its home-field in Mexico City to shut out the American team, 2-0. In a performance an American player referred to as "lackluster", the Americans launched their now-traditional opening assault, only to be skillfully deflected by the Mexican players. Once the American assault had run out of steam, the Mexicans began their own assault, launching a dozen scoring attempts. The American goal-keeper managed to keep the Mexicans from scoring in the first half, but eventually succumbed to exhaustion, letting two shots through in the second half.

Mexico 2, US 0

June 7
Columbia secured its second victory in the qualifiers by beating Canada in Bogota. The game was described as "almost easygoing" after the previous furious match against Mexico. As a result, the mid-game score by Columbia stood for the entire game. The Canadians attempted a comeback late in the game, but were defeated mostly by the frantic efforts of the Columbian goal-keeper, but also by the clock.

Columbia 1, Canada 0

June 9
The Peruvian team, having pulled off a victory against Argentina, came to Rio de Janeiro with the cry "Paris or Death!" which some observers noted was perhaps entirely too accurate. The Brazilians, hoping to salve their national honor after defeat by the United States, came prepared to win, too. The game, like the previous Peru-Chile game, suffered from a bit of violence and injuries, as one Peruvian player was ejected for head-butting the referee who called a foul on him, and a Brazilian player was ejected for breaking a Peruvian defender Yancarlo Jeminez's nose with his elbow. Jeminez, despite the blood pouring down his face, refused to be taken from the field. With both teams down a man, the game stayed interesting as the Peruvians made the first score. Minutes later, the Brazilians fired back, sneaking two shots past the Peruvian goalie. As the second half wore on, the Peruvians' shouts of "Paris or Death" sounded more desperate as the Brazilians appeared to control the game, but with forty-five seconds left, a Peruvian forward sprinted free with the ball, and took a last-ditch shot in the penalty box, tricking the Brazilian goalie to make an early dive for it, only to see it deflected in a hand-ball by another Brazilian defender. With twenty seconds left on the clock, the Peruvians gained a penalty kick and tied the game at 2-2.

Scores so far:
Qualified:
Argentina: 2 wins, 1 loss.
Chile: 2 wins, 1 loss.
Columbia: 2 wins, 1 loss.

Not Qualified:
Mexico: 1 win, 2 losses
Canda: 1 win, 2 losses
US: 1 win, 2 losses

Status Uncertain:
Peru: 1 win, 1 loss, 1 tie
Brazil: 1 win, 1 loss, 1 tie.

Looks like Chile and Argentina are the ones to beat but Colombia could be the spoiler too.

I think you're supposed to have a qualifier match with Brazil and Peru to determine who's in, unless Europe/Africa also have a tie for a 4th spot. Speaking of which is anyone doing Europe/Africa?

I calculated 24 spots for the Final in France, with 4 spots for Asia, two for Africa, four for the Americas and the rest to Europe. I prefer if someone else takes over their own continents. Seems more fair to me. Somebody else could take the other continents.

I'd say that Africa would go to Atlantis and the SAE; though Kaiser Kirk indicated Kongo would go if the SAE didn't.

I can work up scores for Europe, but I'm going to leave it for the moment to see if anyone else wants to have a crack at it. ((Ireland and Bulgaria both want to take a shot at it, BTW.))

Like in the real WC qualifier, goal difference , if that is tie internal results

I think technically you could have the EAS in there too though maybe pointless if Atlantis and the SAE or Kongo are in the tourny. I don't see the EAS having a huge pool of excellent players.

That would make it Brazil with 5 goals to Peru's 3. Sure sucks to miss out on qualifying that way.

Oh, so the game is tied, and the previous games' scores are added against each other?

So Peru scored...
0 points against Chile
1 point against Argentina

And Brazil scored...
2 points against Mexico
1 point against the US

So Brazil wins the fourth slot?

Since they have the same amount of points in 1937 that would be 2 for a victory, 1 for a tie so after the match against Chile Peru had 0 points and a goal difference of -3
