German News and Events, January 1950

Tanner doesn't need to worry, the Admiralty is awake. Actually I don't think the building plans between the two navies are all that different at the moment, with perhaps less emphasis on amphibious warfare for the RN at the moment.

Quoted from "Brockpaine" But the French tripled their patrol forces in Djibouti in September, and have been lurking off the Somaliland coasts... Who can blame N'Dofa for taking advantage of all those BOGOF deals down at Berbera's market? "What's in those crates guv? Just toilet paper and popcorn, honest." *whistles innocently*

23rd December The newly formed newspaper, The Nigerian Tribune hit the news stands of Ibadan in Nigeria with bold headlines advertising the forthcoming Conference on West African Economic Development. He had only just learned of the event himself, and for the proprietor of the paper, the politician Obafemi Awolowo, certainly intended on being there. He had even heard rumour that people like Kenyatta and Limbani would be there, ideal people who to discuss his populist welfare programmes and feder...

United Kingdoms of the Netherlands News 1949

Quoted from "Brockpaine" Hope they've camouflaged the cargo better than normal... given the increased scrutiny for piracy and gunrunning in the region - going into places like Berbera especially - they're likely to get at least one warship giving them the stink-eye. I am sure they are counting on some eyes being elsewhere and its not like N'Dofa's plotters are going to be short of arms when they get home. The crates are going to be a mixed cargo, some of it will be loot. I'm sure the wily Capta...

The analysts within the King’s Intelligence Service were kept busy. They had not known a time like this for several years. It was hard to fit all the pieces of the puzzle together but certainly many of the staff lamented Prime Minister Land’s botched attempts at colonial reform. The Suriname Desk had complied a list of trouble makers and political agitators, of which many were under constant observation. For now the situation seemed stable. The East Indies office in Batavia was kept busy, politi...

The room was a scene of commotion with his batman packing three large suitcases on the bed, another man was carefully burning some papers in the dirty fireplace in the corner of the room as the courier came back. "Did everything go well?" N'Dofa asked as he turned around, handing some papers to the man by the fireplace. The short man nodded, "Yes Sir, the boat left, I watched it myself. The Captain seemed satisfied with his first payment." N'Dofa snorted, "I should think he did, he seemed to kno...

Baron Owija bid his messenger to sit down as he rolled a cigar between his fingers. "Welcome back Julius, I trust you had a productive trip," he snipped the end off the cigar and produced a gold lighter from his jacket pocket, "is Limbani with us?" His emissary shook his head, "I am afraid I must report that he is not. None of his supporters that I spoke to had much feeling for our cause." The Baron puffed on his cigar and blew out a cloud of rich smoke, "they are fools. Can't they see which way...

Operation NOMAD "What is the latest report from BARONESS?" George Smiley lit his cigarette and puffed out a cloud of smoke. Toby Esterhase shrugged, "Just the usual tittle-tattle, table talk, who is going up, who is going down, a load of tripe." Is there anything useful in the report Smiley shifted in his chair as he flicked through the pages of the report, "We can hardly tell Control that can we? Is there anything useful in the report at all?" Esterhase shrugged again, "It seems that Kontinenta...
