Terrible Idea,

You really need to focus on mining the northern approaches.

:)

and this is why I usually don't comment on SATSUMA designs..

Oh, and while it has impressive speed, you lack sufficient composite hull strength. The design is over the 3,000t standard mark, and so needs 0.75

Personally, given her size I think her main armament is really weak. You can do alot more with 3,300 tons like CL armament in single shielded mounts.

Reduced the size to bring it to under 3,000t standard. Main armament is weak due to the space occupied by minelaying equipment taking a lot of space in the side to aft section. This ship is not designed to fight other ships, is designed to be fast and capable of night mining operations.

If she's not designed to fight other ships...

then you don't need 6 guns, blazing speed, and 24" torpedos. You can get lots more mines onto a much smaller hull if you remove the requirement to fight other ships. On the other hand, these things are very useful if you intend to use her, say, to cover the withdrawl of your battle fleet.

i wouldn´t rate her armament "weak". In fact, she is probably overly armed given all the guns and TT (!) mounts that eat up the already limited deckspace. Where will you finally put the mines?

I also wonder if a seaboat rating of 0,7 is a wise choice. I agree a small hull doesn´t HAVE to have a rating above 0,8 but that at least should be the absolut lower limit.
