Then I stand corrected, though looking at British and German warship stats available to me it would seem the Americans were building ships to outmatch either navy.

I think it has more to do with the type of armor plate available. Neither Krupp nor Krupp Cemented Armor had been invented as yet, and the belt might only have been Harvey nickel steel - or perhaps compound armor, which required greater thickness.

Yep you got me Bruce. I was using the Indiana's as a basis for this. I actually had Oregon as my desktop for quite some time. For the same project I have a Monitor and some really funny looking ships as well that lead up to this one. Sense they are all way obsolete be this time, unless one of you has a die-hard urge to see them I will hold onto them for now.
