Aaarrrghhh my head. So much information and so little time.

I find the choice of 6 duple turrets for Takao rather confusing. Why not triples and make them into mini-nagatos instead of mini-fuso?

TAKAO

Could also be some kind of BLÜCHER-like vessel. We don´t know how many superfiring turrets....

The CDS seems a little bit overgrowded with guns. Wonder what armor it has. Same for the TAKAO btw...

8

Sunday, July 11th 2004, 4:40pm

Why?

Because when I went from the 4x3 to the 6x2, I got 0.01 points of hull strength free and all little bits help.
Also, when one turret gets blown off the ship, I only lose 16.7% of my firepower instead of 25%.
BTW, they aren't mini Fuso's, but regular (original) Furutaka's (something like this). But since my ships are much bigger than the Furutaka's (about 6,000 tons) I won't have the problem that they are "deficient in seakeeping qualities".
For a while (after creating the Q2 report) I was thinking about creating a "Mogataka" (Mogami-Furutaka).

The Filipino govenment views these developments with some concern, and has directed their naval architects to begin work on battleship designs...

Will see if it fits. If not, I can always slighlty alter the design. After all. I am not building it yet.
As for the armor... Better than paper. :-)

Hahahahaha.
Funny thing is that the original plan was to go for the normal Takao layout (5x2 8 inch and 4x2 4.7 inch would become 5x2 200mm and 4x2 105mm), but with the Oniwabanshu ('You will hear them but you won't see them') getting their hands on the designs of the Basilan, the decision was made to go for the additional turret.
Guess the Bakufu got concerned as well (when it comes to cruisers). :-)

12

Sunday, July 11th 2004, 7:46pm

Atlantis is very consearned for the Japanese sailors safety in the floating powder kegs known as the Takao class, perhaps it would be wise to buy some Basilan class cruisers instead?

13

Sunday, July 11th 2004, 8:12pm

Well, if Atlantis thinks it would be wise for us to buy some Basilan class cruisers, then perhaps we should.
It should be noted that by making this remark, Atlantis agrees that Japan is allowed to build 15,000 ton 10 inch armed ships that are to be considered to fall in the cruiser category and not in the capital ship category.
:-)

14

Sunday, July 11th 2004, 8:39pm

Heh heh that would dip into your total cruiser tonnage so that might not be a bad idea!

15

Sunday, July 11th 2004, 9:19pm

Total cruiser tonnage?!?
It should be noted that by making this remark, Atlantis agrees that Japan is allowed to use all its class B cruiser tonnage for class A cruisers.
:-)
That would mean I could build 15 of those Basilan cruisers...

16

Sunday, July 11th 2004, 9:30pm

If Japan builds any Basilan-class cruisers, the Philippines reserves the right to:

a) Build as many Improved Basilan-class battlecruisers as we see fit;
