Canada, Eh? 1942 News

Naval Matters
A new large carrier has been laid down at the Halifax Royal Naval Dockyard. Tenacious is expected to be similar in size and capability as the three older carriers currently in Canadian service, but more efficient and versitile due to numerous modern advances, in addition to the vessel being a purpose-built design.

Work continues on the four Ontario class frigates, of which completion may be delayed due to the diversion of resources to other projects.

The RCN's large class of fleet submarines, now planned for a full run of twenty vessels, is half completed and undergoing acceptance trials. Notably, continuing with the Dominion of Canada's investment in facilities and infrastructure in Bermuda, one sub is being built at the Royal Naval Dockyard at King's Wharf.

The Royal Navy and the Canadian Marines have presented requests to Parliment for the authorization of several Amphibious Assault ships, with numerous proposals having been drawn up for both conversion of older assets, as well as new-construction.

Aeronautics
Orenda Engines is introducing a large, new X-24 layout engine known as the Orenda Onondaga, based on engineering from the Orenda Oneida and design principles of the Rolls-Royce Vulture.

Avro Canada has two new designs being introduced this year; the CF-10- an Air Superiority type in development for some time, based on experience with the XCF-9 and CF-12 designs, and powered by the Orenda Onondaga engine, and the CF-14- a lighter tandem-winged interceptor project designed for Airship and Carrier operations.

Canadian Car & Foundry will be debuting the CF-15, it's new twin-engine fighter developed from the Zimmerman concepts previously employed on the CF-175 "Skimmer"

Canadian Vickers will also be introducing a new Carrier-borne Torpedo and Dive bomber, developed through CADRE based on the Supermarine Type 322. Of note is the craft's variable-incidence wing, allowing greater flexibility in carrier operations.
