The Marine Base Defense Regiment is a combined arms formation whose exact structure is dictated by the mission to which a particular regiment is assigned. The core of the regiment consists of a staff, a mobile antiaircraft battalion and a local defense battalion, as detailed in the chart appended below.
Fixed coast defenses at major naval stations, such as those in Palawan, are placed under the control of the resident Marine Base Defense Regiment, whose establishment is augmented with coast defense artillery companies to man such guns; alternatively, if manned by naval personnel, such naval elements are attached to the resident base defense regiment.
Depending upon mission, the establishment of a base defense regiment may be augmented by additional antiaircraft or local defense troops, or be assigned combat support or service support elements as required.
