The first pair of four projected escort sloops were laid down today at the shipyards here; together with a seaplane tender laid down the same day, these warships mark a further milestone in the reconstruction of the Royal Yugoslav Navy.

After many years of valuable service the Junkers Ju87 dive bomber has been retired from service with the Royal Yugoslav Air Force following the conversion of Nos. 66 and 67 Squadrons to the Soko Jastreb fighter-bomber. The month of December also saw the entry into service of the Soko Zmaj light bomber with Nos. 81 and 83 Squadrons at Dubinje Air Base.

The Defence Ministry has announced that after many delays that it has approved the production of the M40 rocket launcher by the Zastava Ordnance Works. The procurement of this weapon has been long-delayed due to unstated technical reasons.

The armoured gunboats Odra and Tisa were completed today in the Adriatic yards, and will begin their trials immediately. The last of the four ships of the Project 1941 Gamma type, it is expected that they will be stationed, with their sisters, at the port of Durrës.

His Highness Crown Prince Petar attended ceremonies here today to mark the launching of the fourth light destroyer of the Project 1941 Delta type. It is expected that this ship will be completed in the early summer and will join the fleet early in the next year. In his remarks the Crown Prince thanked the workers of the shipyard for their long efforts to bring about the renovation of the fleet and the importance that the navy plays in defence of the nation.
