[Nordmark] Gam Class Fleet Carrier

The existing design for the major carriers Nordmark has on the ways is in SS3. Much as I personally might favor that program, given the standards used for WW, this obviously won't do.

So I've been trying to figure out what the 'real' Gam looks like, thus...

Gam Class, Nordmark Fleet Carrier laid down 1940

Displacement:
30,000 t light; 30,822 t standard; 34,682 t normal; 37,770 t full load

The above is constructed on the assumption that carriers should be simmed with their SS freeboard going up to the flight deck regardless of the details of their hanger design.

If one instead assumes that the SS 'deck' is the strength deck, then the below becomes possible...

HOLY CARP, look at that insane armoured deck!

Also - your first design has a 2mm TDS. I don't think that's very effective. :P

Regarding your simming of freeboard, the second version is more in line with the way most of us sim our carriers.

It's as effective as a sheet of paper. :)

The lack of typos is one of the several reasons I like the second version better and am hoping it's allowed under the rules. I'd need to go back and shave the deck to add the intended bulkhead.

And yeah, a considerably thicker deck than I managed to give either of them seems like it'd be called for if I wanted to resist air attack, but the fact that their weight class is already known limits that. I think that the system in place relies on 'detonator' and 'catcher' plates rather than being a single monolithic deck. Not perfect, but the best available option.

Were the Gams built in class three slips? Because if you could use the class four slip(s) you have, you could have a longer, more cruiser-like hull (with greater deck area).

The two existing designs - especially the first - are rather short and chunky for their size.

They're in class fours; I went with this hull form because I felt that the BC that resulted from a longer design was much too low for a ship this size.

Edit: Trying out a 250m version loses some deck armor and gains... nothing at all that I can find, honestly.

When resimming from SS3 to SS2, the goal is to match the miscellaneous weight and keep as many of the major features the same as what's on the original design. Minor changes are allowed so long as they meet the spirit of those goals. I had a go at simming them myself, and here's what I've got.
